A Carrion Death
by Michael Stanley
Botswana. Assistant Detective Superintendent David Bengu (Kubu, The Hippo) investigates the death of someone who’s half eaten by hyenas in the Kalahari Desert. A diamond mine is involved and we learn all about the nefarious activities that go down in that setting – for example the salting of mines. Fascinating stuff. A bit of DNA analysis sorts out who exactly was being eaten by the hyenas (even if only in part) and mimicry presented some added confusion for Kubu. Good to see nicknames are prevalent in Botswanan law enforcement and Setswana is the language spoken by Botswanans. I love reading stuff set in other countries.
